Hunters & Collectors - Ghost Nation (1989)

The cult Australian band Hunters & Collectors never achieved the international success of their contemporaries Midnight Oil, but, as this 1990 set shows, it wasn't through lack of trying. Cuts such as the opener, "When the River Runs Dry" blend a dark, apocalyptic vision with commercial approachability, while the meandering, dappled "Lazy Summer Day" and the rocking, Stonesy "Crime of Passion" display a musical vision that encompasses both '60s psychedelia and rootsy R&B.

More and more, the British media - mainstream general, national, as well as specialist musical, are hailing Gilad Atzmon as the greatest thing ever to have emerged on the British jazz scene. For once, they are being modest, even conservative. Gilad Atzmon is probably the most exciting phenomenon to have hit the international jazz world since Eric Dolphy and John Coltrane. Exile, the latest album by Gilad Atzmon & The Orient House Ensemble, featuring Reem Kelani & Dhafer Youssef, is more than ample testimony to this. It is without a doubt the most exhilarating, inspired and innovative jazz album in some three decades. A fusion of post-bop, swing, Sephardi/Ladino, Palestinian, Arabic, klezmer and Balkan, Exile is "world jazz" at its very finest.

Glasvegas - Glasvegas (2008)

Hearing "Geraldine" made me an instant fan of this band. Their lyrics are colorful ("I'll be the angel on your shoulder/My name is Geraldine/I'm your social worker") and their vocals strong - the thick Scottish accents, for me, being a plus. This album has - for lack of a better word - grandeur. It's got a big, grand, showy sound and this works for Glasvegas. Rock and roll is not dead. It is alive and it is Scottish and I can't get enough of it. (Amazon.com)

The idea was a simple one: songs for the piano and voice, recorded in one week in a bedroom, just to get them down on tape. But like all things surrounding the Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer-a one-woman machine who is a rock musician, artist, writer, yoga enthusiast, political activist and more-simplicity is not an easy thing to come by. Her small idea snowballed into something grand, exciting and nothing short of brilliant in the form of her debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer.

This is a compilation album of songs from the Warner Brothers recordings of Alice Cooper(the band). After this album came out, Alice Cooper(the singer) left the band that was named after him. Or was he named after the band? Anyway, Alice Cooper the solo artist never made records as good as Alice Cooper the band did. These songs represent the height of Alice Cooper's career. I highly recommend this CD to fans of '70s rock. (avg. bitrate: 320kbps)
