Aphrodite's Child - 666 (1971)

Before The Omen, and before Vangelis departed upon a solo career yielding electronic music for various films, there was this interesting "rock opera" conceptual production based upon the apocalyptic Judeo-Christian myth's book of Revelation, and seems to be a rather darker answer to 'Jesus Christ Superstar' so prominent at the time.

Essentially considered "progressive rock", it does contain some rather pleasing pieces setting a mood for celebration and 'sinful' vice, as well as somber orchestrations incorperating an eclectic combination of classical, rock, and even tribal mixes of instrumentation, combined with haunting narrations ranging from both the 'angelic' to the 'demonic' in countenance.

All in all, this is a simply incredible album that pushes the boundaries of rock to the breaking point. Highly recommended to all fans of psychedelic rock with touches of prog.

P.M. Dawn - The Best of P.M. Dawn (2000)

P.M. Dawn is certainly one of the most overlooked and much maligned groups of the 90's, and definately one of the best and most original. Accused in hip-hop circles of "faking the funk", and refusing to be strapped down to some of the limitations of that genre, they took a mixture of hip-hop, trip-hop, trance techno, classic R&B and esoteric exploration and created a truly unique style.

This collection is a good overview and a decent introduction to P.M. Dawn's esoteric soul, but not nearly a complete collection. The best use here would have been to create a double set, one disc highlighting the singles and prime album cuts (many of those are missing), and the second disc dedicated to the many remixes they've created, both of their work and of other artists.

Dispite it's incomplete status, this disc is a collection of songs in a style that you won't find anywhere else. For the uninitiated, this is the best place to start...then check out the rest of the story.

Blondie - Greatest Hits (2006)

This album is by far the greatest. It includes all of the hits from one of the greatest bands. Almost 20 years of great music compacted into one disc. It might be a shame that it is one disc, but the music is as clear as the day the band started. Blondie stayed true to it's roots, even though time changed. Rock on to the future.
