There can be said a lot about Tina Turner. I won't. Enjoy this beautiful 3 cd collection of all the best. All tracks are 2009, meaning they are at 320 kb and here and there the sound quality is improved using digital enhancement. A must for all that grown up and /or had moods with the lovely TT.

Robert Cray - Definitive Collection [Remastered] (2009)

Robert Cray's musical strengths, which include an economic, elegant and melodic guitar approach and a soulful and unthreatening vocal style, have led many blues purists to question his authenticity in the genre, but to his credit, Cray has ignored all that and fashioned an approachable legacy that treats the blues as a vital ingredient in a kind of soul/blues mix that looks forward as much as it enfolds the past. This is an artist, remember, who managed to get the blues, even if it was somewhat sanitized, into regular rotation on MTV in the 1980s, and if he seems more jazz than Delta in his guitar playing, well, there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

Rolling Stones - Tattoo you [Remastered] (1981)

Tattoo You is another undisputed classic and rightly topped the US charts for nine weeks on its original release in 1981. Its opening track and first single, Start Me Up, remains one of the band's best loved songs and a mainstay of their live set. The cleverly sequenced Tattoo You comprises six rock tracks, including the US Top 20 hit Hang Fire, the fast blues of Black Limousine, Richards' lead vocal on Little T & A, and the sneering Neighbours, but the five ballads which follow - and formed the second side of the original vinyl - really lift it into another league. The sweet soul of Worried About You, Tops and the sublime Waiting On A Friend, featuring jazz great Sonny Rollins on saxophone, in particular show what a fine singer Jagger is. Corriston's cover design won a Grammy Award for best album package.

Warumpi Band - Too Much Humbug (1996) [re-up]

It is hard to say that any music could ever really evoke the spirit of Central Australia, but Warumpi Band comes about as close as you can get; a great mixture of country, hard guitar Aussie pub-rock, the right amount of traditional (easily overdone in pop), English and local languages and that cool laid-back groove that seems to somehow find it's way into so much tropical music. The Warumpi band disabanded in 1995 but has set a landmark with this third and final release.

Tinariwen - Amassakoul (2004)

A little geography and sociology first....Tinariwen is a Tuareg/Berber musical group from Mali, North Africa. You know, Sahara Desert, camels, henna tattoos, and all that. They formed in 1982, and their name means "empty places" in their native tongue. They did a lot of low-tech recording for nearly 20 years; mainly rebel music supporting Tuareg independence from the government of Mali. In 2000 they were "discovered" by the West; they have since played in France, England, and the USA, and have sparked a lot of interest, wherever they play.

Amassakoul ("Traveller"), their second album, is a unique and wonderful fusion CD. Tinariwen has masterfully incorporated 1950's - 1960's era American blues/rock electric guitar with their already formidable Tuareg vocals and percussion. Listening to these tracks, I got the feeling that Bo Diddley, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, and maybe even Jimi Hendrix all took to the Sahara by caravan, and started jamming with their Tuareg hosts. The result is hypnotic, funky, and exhilarating.

Yothu Yindi - Tribal Voice (1992)

Yothu Yindi cannot be put into the watered-down, new-age inspired "world music" category despite the aboriginal background of most band members. There are no synthesizers backing up a few notes on some "indigenous" instruments here; "Tribal Voice" is not easy listening. Instead, it's hard-hitting, full-throttle rock, with a powerful merger of aboriginal (esp. the didgeridoo) and more conventional instruments. The result is some really fresh and unique music that can't quite be compared to anything else - not even fellow Aussie rockers Midnight Oil, even though their political stance is quite similar. Yothu Yindi has done a great job of skillfully melding traditional aboriginal sounds with rock and a relevant message.

Ali Farka Touré - Savane (2006)

Savane, the great African guitarist and bluesman Ali Farka Touré's final solo studio album, was recorded in his native Mali toward the end of his life, when the artist knew his days were numbered. He spent his last years in his home village of Niafunké, concentrating on farming and family matters, jamming with local musicians of an evening. This impassioned, roots-drenched, mostly acoustic valedictory finds the Maestro's stalking rhythms and high-noon-at-the-crossroads, dusty desert-to-delta vocals in no less than life-summing form. Pee Wee Ellis (sax) and Little George Sueref (harmonica) each manage to make strong impressions while adhering to the groove at hand. Afel Boucoum, a talented younger musician who has been mentioned as Touré's most likely successor (as if such a thing were possible!), graces "Njarou," the last tune. The other players are also at the top of their game, as fluttering ngoni (a West African spike lute) riffs weave in and out and airy female vocals float like a breeze off the river Niger. There are reports that Touré senior sat in on his son's upcoming album and scads of archival material will undoubtedly materialize. But his unsentimental, voluptuously masculine, spirit-guided magic is captured at its best, for all time, in this magnificent farewell.
